Common reasons for an acute-care visit
- Burning, urgency, or frequent urination and suspected urinary tract infection (UTI).
- Cough, sore throat, congestion, sinus discomfort, and other upper respiratory symptoms.
- Flu-like symptoms, fever, or concerns about COVID-19.
- Ear discomfort, mild rashes, or other new concerns that may be appropriate for an office evaluation.

Urinary tract infection evaluation
Burning with urination, needing to urinate often, and lower abdominal pressure can be signs of a UTI. Other conditions can cause similar symptoms, so treatment starts with an assessment. Urine testing or a culture may be recommended based on your symptoms and history.
If a bacterial UTI is diagnosed, treatment considers allergies, previous infections, kidney health, and test results. Tell us if you are pregnant or could be pregnant.
Fever or chills with back or side pain, vomiting, or feeling very unwell needs prompt same-day assessment because it may indicate a kidney infection. Seek emergency care if symptoms are severe or you cannot keep fluids down.
Upper respiratory infections, cough, and sore throat
Many colds and respiratory infections are caused by viruses. We assess your symptoms and discuss whether testing for conditions such as strep throat, flu, or COVID-19 would help guide treatment.
Antibiotics do not treat viral colds or flu. When a bacterial infection is suspected or confirmed, we discuss appropriate treatment. Your plan may include symptom relief, hydration, and guidance on when to return.
Contact us early for possible flu or COVID-19, especially if you are older, pregnant, immunocompromised, or have chronic health conditions. Antiviral treatment, when appropriate, works best when started early.
What to expect at your visit
We review your symptoms, medical history, medicines, and allergies, and perform an examination. Testing is chosen when it can help clarify the diagnosis or change treatment. You will receive a care plan and instructions about symptoms that need reassessment.
Bring your medication list, any recent test results, and the date your symptoms began. Let the office know before arriving if you have fever, cough, or other potentially contagious symptoms so we can advise you on arrival precautions.
Follow-up matters
Contact the office if you are getting worse, developing new symptoms, or not improving as expected. If testing was ordered, ask when and how you should receive the results. Take prescribed medicines as directed; do not use leftover antibiotics or someone else's prescription.
When to seek emergency care
Call 911 for severe trouble breathing, chest pain or pressure, new confusion, fainting, signs of stroke, or a severe allergic reaction. Acute-care office visits are not a substitute for emergency care. Do not wait for an appointment or an online message response for emergency symptoms.
